Our Materials

At Timber & Botanical, we work with natural, tactile materials selected for their durability, character, and organic beauty. From American-made slate and solid hardwoods to thoughtfully chosen jewelry components and carefully selected cardstock and linen-style papers, every piece is crafted to feel intentional, lasting, and one of a kind.

American-Made Natural Slate

Our slate pieces are crafted from high-quality, American-made S1 grade natural stone — the highest grade available. Each coaster is hand-split and finished with smooth edges, giving it a clean, refined look while preserving the natural character of the material.

With a thickness ranging from approximately 3/16″ to 1/4″, these coasters feel solid, durable, and built to last. The slate is naturally colored throughout — not surface-treated — and is available in rich tones like Pearl Black and Camo Green.

We precision laser engrave each piece, creating permanent designs that won’t fade, peel, or wear away over time. Because this is real stone, every coaster will have subtle variations in texture, tone, and pattern — making each one uniquely its own.

Solid American Hardwoods

American Made Hardwood

We use solid hardwoods sourced from a U.S.-based supplier, selected for their strength, clean grain, and natural beauty. Each piece is precision-cut, sanded smooth, and ready for engraving — allowing us to focus entirely on craftsmanship and detail.

Unlike laminated or veneer-based materials, our wood is solid throughout, with no glue seams or artificial layers. This results in a cleaner engraving surface, sharper detail, and a more refined finished product.

We work with a variety of hardwood species, each offering its own tone, grain pattern, and character — ensuring every piece feels natural, unique, and built to last.

Stainless Steel & Sterling Silver

Our jewelry pieces feature stainless steel and sterling silver components selected for their durability, clean finish, and everyday wearability. These materials resist tarnishing and are well-suited for long-term use, making them a reliable choice for pieces you’ll reach for often.

We pair these metals with natural elements like wood, stone, and glass to create designs that feel grounded, balanced, and easy to wear. Each component is chosen to complement the overall look of the piece while maintaining strength and comfort.

Earth Safe Finishes

Whenever possible we use paints, stains, or protective finishes, we choose products that are safe, non-toxic, and responsibly made. We use finishes from a U.S.-based company known for producing zero-VOC, water-based products without harmful chemicals.

These finishes are free from substances like formaldehyde, heavy metals, and harsh solvents, making them a safer choice for your home and everyday use. They are designed to provide a clean, durable finish while maintaining a focus on health, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.

What are VOC’s?

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that can release harmful emissions into the air. While outdoor air quality is regulated, indoor air quality is just as important — especially since we spend most of our time inside. Choosing safe, low-emission materials helps create a healthier living environment.

Sustainably Sourced & Thoughtfully Made

Support Local Made in America Small Business

Whenever possible, we prioritize materials that are sustainably sourced and made in the United States. We intentionally support small, American-based businesses that share our commitment to quality, integrity, and craftsmanship.

Our brand is built on a foundation of strong values, including faith, honesty, and doing things the right way — even when it’s not the easiest path. We believe in supporting makers and suppliers who operate with the same level of care and purpose.

In some cases, certain materials are not currently available from sustainable U.S. sources. When that happens, we carefully choose the best available option while continuing to seek better alternatives. As more American-made and responsibly sourced materials become available, we will continue to transition toward them.
